The Remington 870 shotgun has been in production since 1951 and is claimed to be the best-selling shotgun of all time, with over 9 million having been sold. It is a pump-action weapon and has been produced in many configurations. This example has a folding butt. The Remington 870 has been extensively used in law enforcement and also by several armies. The British Army adopted it as the L74A1. Its primary use has been by Special Forces - either in jungle terrain or, with special ammunition, as a door-breaching weapon.
Information received from the Police at time of acquisition indicated that this weapon had been carried as a private purchase firearm by an officer of the SAS.
